Porto Azzurro
The popular holiday town of Porto Azzuro lies protected in a deep bay in the eastern part of Elba. Two mighty fortresses tower over the former fishing town, where cutters and yachts bob side by side in the harbour.
A picturesque, historic quarter and an attractive promenade invite you to enjoy a leisurely stroll.
Every night, the promenade's shops and restaurants are a main meeting place for locals and tourists alike. Street vendors and artists add to the lively atmosphere.
Beautiful port
Porto Azzurro is towered over by the high walls of the two fortresses, which were built in the 17th century, Fort Forcardo is located to the south and San Giacomo in Porto Longone stands on the other side of the bay.
The fortress was built in 1603, during the Spanish occupation and still serves as a prison today.
Porto Azzurro's beaches
The beautiful sandy beaches Reale and Barbarossa, named after the dreaded pirates, lie to the north of Porto Azzurro. Thanks to a good infrastructure, the beaches are the perfect place to spend relaxing days at the beach. more
