Castello di San Polo in Rosso
The Castello di San Polo in Rosso stands idyllically on a hill in the heart of the Chianti Classico. Vineyards, olive groves and oak forests surround the beautiful castle, which dates back to the 12th century.
The private estate rises over the watercourse Arbia. Sangiovese grapes, which are used to make the famous Chianti Classico, ripen on the sun-drenched vineyards.
Fortified castle in Tuscany
For centuries, the territory of the Chianti Classico has been well known as a border area and battle zone between the rival city republics Siena and Florence.
The Castello di San Polo was used as a Florentine outpost, thanks to its strategic location.
The fortress' church tower mainly served as a watchtower, to spy on the enemy from Siena to the south.
Pieve di San Polo
The fortified Romantic Pieve di San Polo dates back to the 8th century. The parish church is mentioned again in a document from 1070. A perfectly kept mediaeval fresco cycle decorates the middle nave.
Holiday in a Tuscan castle
Former industrial buildings surround the wonderfully peaceful Castello di San Polo with its mediaeval facade. Guests can spend relaxing days in these terracotta-covered cottages.
