Volpaia
The small, fortified Volpaia still has a sense of the Middle Ages. Massive walls were built to protect the beautiful village in the Chianti Classico during the border conflicts between Florence and Siena.
Wine plays as large a roll here today as it did centuries ago. As a member of the historical Lega del Chianti, Volpaia has been well known for its wine since the 11th century.
Traditional winegrowing town
The grapes of the winegrowing estate Castello di Volpaia are processed in huge cellars, behind skillfully restored mediaeval buildings. Numerous residents are involved in olive oil and wine production.
Lively Middle Ages
Anyone who wanders through the traditional village will notice Volpaia's culture house. The massive Commanda di San Eufrosino was once built as a sacred place; today it offers a wonderful atmosphere to various events.
Strada dei Castelli del Chianti
The beautiful castle road winds through the landscape in the heart of the Chianti Classico. Clearly signposted, the road connects the region's old castles such as the Castello di Brolio. more
