Castiglion Fiorentino
A city fortress situated on a gentle hill, Castiglion Fiorentino offers great views. The charm of the past still rules the town centre, surrounded by city walls and defense towers.
The Etruscans and Romans even knew to appreciate the exposed location of Casiglion Fiorentino. As the name says, the town later fell to Florence. Over the years, the small city grew beyond its boundaries and can today be divided into the upper old town and the modern new town, which stretches far into the valley.
Middle Ages and Renaissance
The lanes of the historical centre lead up and down to the main square, which has beautiful Renaissance palaces. A loggia in the style of Vasari and decorated with a coat of arms and arches, offers magnificent views of the Chiana valley.
City fortress with collection of paintings
The town hall and the centre of the old Cassero-fortress, of which one tower and the church Sant' Angelo remains, is situated somewhat higher up. The extensive art collection of the city is hosted here, offering the most popular paintings of well-known artists from the region's art schools.
