Festival in Monteriggioni

The Festa Monteriggioni di torri si corona is one of the most famous festivals in the whole of Italy. Clowns, street performers and craftsmen gather in the fortress and create a magical mediaeval atmosphere.

The festival's organisers have proven time and time again their ability to pay attention to detail. Even the residents dress in historical clothing, things are paid for in Monteriggioni's mediaeval currency, the Scudo.

Jesters and fire-eaters, noblewomen and heavily armed knights all add to the atmosphere. A beggar, dressed in rags, serves as a reminder of the plague, as he limps through the streets. Old songs can be heard throughout. Craftsmen show their skills, for example as farriers or ropemakers.
