Opening times

The Mediterranean siesta is taken seriously in Tuscany: In the midday hours, not much takes place in the shops and on the streets.

Most stores open during the week from 8.30am-12.30pm and from 3.30pm-7.30pm. The opening times vary depending on the season however. Many shops only open for half a day on Mondays.

In the main tourist spots, many storekeepers extend the opening times and also open on Sundays and holidays.

Banks, chemists, museums and churches

Italian banks generally open from Monday to Friday between 8.30am-1.30pm and 2.45m-3.45pm.

Chemists are generally open from 8.30am-12.30pm and from 3.30pm-7.30pm. Italian pharmacies also have an emergency service outside of normal opening times.

Museums generally open Tuesday-Saturday from 9am-7pm. On Sundays they often only open in the mornings.

Churches are mostly closed at midday for two or three hours.
