Festivals in Livorno

Many of the festivals are influenced by the maritime way of life in this port. The sailing regatta Trofeo Accademia Navale, the exciting rowing competitions and the Effetto Venezia spectacle are all celebrated in summer in Livorno.

Trofeo Accademia Navale

The Trofeo Accademia Navale, Livorno's marine academy sailing regatta, is held at the end of April. Skippers from all over the world attend this huge sailing event. The regattas create a colourful scene. A cultural programme accompanies the event.

Coppa Barontini and Coppa dei Risicatori

At the end of June, each of the city's quarters compete against each other in a rowing competition for the Coppa Barontini and the Coppa dei Risicatori. The atmosphere is picturesque at this maritime competition, even as it takes place at night. The teams row along the canals in front of the Fortezza Nuova.
The exhausting race for the Coppa die Riscatori takes place on the open sea and honours the sailors, who risk their lives carrying out their duties. The winners not only take home the cup, but also the honour.

Palio Marinaro

On the first Sunday of July, the residents of Liverno's city quarters take part in yet another measuring of strength. The competition takes place in the straight of Palio Marinao, with a view of the Terrazza Mascagni. Six representatives form a team and compete for the Drappo, for their quarter.

Effetto Venezia

At the end of July, the Effetto Venezia spectacle transforms the historical centre of Liverno. Music, dancing, theatre and hoards of street performers create a unique flair in the town's lanes and alleys. The festival is definitely worth a visit!
