Castiglione della Pescaia
The charm of the harbour town Castiglione della Pescaia on the Etruscan Riviera is impressive. The mouth of the Rio Bruna and a castle that lies high above the rooftops, characterise this lively holiday destination.
The promenade on the well-tended beach, the harbour and the mediaeval quarter of Castiglione invites you to take a walk. Lively goings on developed around the old town over the past few decades.
In the summer, mostly Italian families come to dive into the crystal clear waters. In spring and autumn, Castiglione is somewhat emptier, ideal for a few days by the sea.
Harbour and lively promenade
Fishing boats bob next to holiday yachts in the small harbour at the mouth of the river.
Numerous bars and restaurants, where the lively goings on can be observed, border the sea promenade. In the modern town centre, multiple shops offer specialties from Maremma.
Mediaeval fortress
The historical Castiglione della Pescaia, complete with romantic lanes, is towered over by the fortress Rocca Aragonese from the 14th century.
From here, you can enjoy a picturesque view over the old town, beaches and the ocean, vast moorland and wonderful pine forests.
Palio Marinaro
At the end of June, the four town quarters of Castiglione della Pescaia compete against each other in the traditional Regatta Palio Marinaro. Selected representatives compete on the Bruna River for the win. The race is preceded by a colourful procession complete with historical costumes.
Castiglione della Pescaia's beaches
The pine tree lined sandy beaches provide beautiful scenery on both sides of the river Bruna. In addition to the ubiquitous Bagni, the beach areas with parasols and sun loungers, which charge admission, free beach access can be found. more
