Festivals in Viareggio
The Carnelvale di Viareggio can easily be compared with Venice or Rio! The magnificent wagons enjoy worldwide fame. One extraordinary highlight is the Festival Pucciano, where his operas find a magnificent stage.
Carnevale di Viareggio
The carnival procession was first celebrated in 1873. Anyone who has ever attended knows: the carnival goings on in Viareggio can be compared with those in Venice and Rio!
The spectacular processions dominate life in the city for days on end, the preparations take place year round.
The artfully decorated floats with papemache constructions of gigantic proportions characterise the processions of the Carnevale di Viareggio. Celebrities from all over the world are caricatured in yearly-changing themes.
The figures have amazing mobility. They can move their limbs, roll their eyes- perfected hydraulics and many hours of work make this possible. In addition to the procession, mask festivals and various sporting and cultural events are organised.
Giacomo Puccini Festival
Opera lovers can look forward to the Festival Pucciniano, which takes place in the open air. The sea-stage of Lago di Massciuccoli hosts the operas of Puccini in the months of July and August.
The artists themselves are inspired by his famous melodies. Puccini lived in a villa by the sea, which now houses the Puccini-Museum.
