Cycling

Tuscany's different landscapes allow for leisurely cycles as well as fast-paces mountain-biking. Quiet valleys, rough terrain, individual trails and small streets will excite cyclists.

The silhouettes of mediaeval castles and palaces accompany the tours. Colours, smells and fantastic views create a unique atmosphere.

Enjoyable cycling tours

Tuscany can be discovered by bicycle at a relaxed pace. Wonderful routes lead cyclists past vineyards of the Chianti and along wide boulevards, lined with pine trees.

The whole of Tuscany is full of forest and country lanes, as well as less travelled roads, which are perfect for cycling. Peaceful valleys, olive groves and cypress boulevards lead to interesting places. Wonderful views of the landscape make it worthwhile to climb the surrounding hills.

Maremma's back country

Anyone who enjoys things a little more exciting, will treasure the steep inclines, fast downhills and demanding individual trails in Maremma. The hilly backcountry in the south of Tuscany offers a well-signed network of mountain biking trails. The mountain bike routes lead along small trails and quiet panoramic roads, through a unique nature with plenty of charm.

Demanding Garfagnana

Rough cliffs surround the fertile Garfagnana in Tuscany's north. The tours lead through dense forests and green pastures, steep mountain paths and connecting roads. A certain amount of fitness is needed for this cyclist's paradise full of changes in altitude.

For everyone: Island of Elba

The largest Tuscan island will amaze you with its beautiful nature and multitude of routes for leisurely cycles and tough challenges alike. Forests, dense Macchia, fruit gardens, steep cliffs and rocky mountains offer a diverse network covering all levels of difficulty.

Travel times for cyclists

Nature awakens at the end of March and the comfortable temperatures lure cyclists onto their bikes. The fields and hillsides bloom in magnificent colours until the middle of June. It can get rather hot during the summer months of July and August. A cool swim is irresistible.

From September, you can count on lower temperatures. The last warm days of autumn can be enjoyed until November; the landscape is a magnificent mirage of colours. In winter, rain and wind can hamper things. The coast of the Tuscan archipelago is particularly mild.

Organised tours

You can enjoy Tuscany's fascinating landscape on organised day tours lead by knowledgeable local guides.
