Weather and times to visit
Anyone who talks about Tuscany, has a year-round weather format in mind: tepid winter, mild spring and autumn and a hot, dry summer. This is always the case, when the grand scheme of things isn't changed.
During the past few years, Tuscany, which is protected by the coast and Apennine has had very different weather. As in northern Europe, Tuscany has had a weather scheme, where everything is possible at any time.
One doesn't have to expect heavy rain and scorching hear. The weather is often dependable, isn't it?
Temperature and rain
The average temperature in the art metropolis Florence is about 8C in January, in July the thermometer can reach 31C. January and February mark the coldest months of the year, at higher altitudes such as in the Apennine Alps, snow is possible. Most rain falls between October and March.
Popular times to visit in spring and autumn
In spring (from March) and autumn, lots of art lovers and nature fans travel to Tuscany. Accommodation should be booked well in advance during this time, as it is in great demand.
The weather during this time is often mild and sunny. Rain in April is nothing unusual, however.
Summer, by the sea or in the mountains
In the summer, the climate is mostly warm and dry, it seldom rains. In the areas near rivers (such as Florence) it can become unbearably humid. During this period, the coastal and mountain regions are especially attractive.
Thunderstorms are not unusual and often offer a break from the humidity.
