Telephones
The telephone network in Italy is extensive, telephone booths can be found in every small village. The country code for Italy is 0039. The regional code, including the first zero, must always be dialed.
Anyone calling Florence from abroad, must dial 0039 055, then the number. The prefix must also be dialed from within the same area. Mobile telephone numbers are dialed without the first 0.
Telephone cards
The telephone booths mostly only accept telephone cards. They can be bought in kiosks, in the tabacchi, in bars, petrol stations or at Telecom Italia. before using it for the first time, tear off the perforated corner.
