Montepulciano
Built on a mountain slope, Montepulciano spoils its visitors with a wonderful townscape and culinary specialties. This pice de resistance of architecture impresses throughout the year with one of the most unusual festivals in Tuscany.
Just as in previous centuries, Montepulciano still rests within its old city walls. Modern buildings are not part of the picture, even outside these walls.
Founded by the Etruscans, Montepulciano was taken over by the Romans. It was later fought over by Florence and Siena, which finally came under Florentine rule in the 16th century.
Wine and delicate specialties
Montepulciano is well known for its delicate wines. The old wine cellars under the city invite you to explore and enjoy the nice atmosphere under the crooked arches.
The ruby red Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is famous far beyond the city's borders. The wild boar dishes of the town also enjoy an excellent reputation.
