Capoliveri
The peninsula Calamita is home to the beautiful mountain town of Capoliveri, high above the sea. Cobbled lanes, lovingly restored houses and a quaint piazza all add to the charm of this small town in the south east of the island.
The Etruscans and Romans settled in Capoliveri, which was then known as Caput Liberum.
In the Middle Ages, the Pisans erected a fortress as protection against growing numbers of pirate attacks.
Until the 1970s, the residents worked as farmers or miners, the vacated iron mines bear witness to this.
Romantic lanes
Anyone visiting Capoliveri today will wander through the town's winding streets and romantic stepped lanes. Various shops, bars and restaurants invite you to linger. In the summer, the Piazza Matteotti offers a wonderful stage for concerts.
Accommodation by the sea
Picturesque bays are located below the town, spread out along the coast of the Golfo Stella. Small holiday settlements have been built in some of them over the past few years.

Beaches of Capoliveri
Small, partly secluded bays invite you to bathe at the foot of the cliffs of Caploliveri. The clear waters of the Golfo Stella, as well as the beautiful sand and pebble beaches create a wonderful scene, in front of the backdrop of thick vegetation. more
