Castellina in Chianti
The impressive fortress of the lively winemaking town of Castellina in Chianti can be seen from a far. Fantastic views over the Chianti Classico, a large piazza and mediaeval streets define this wonderful town.
The lane Via delle Volte, where almost no daylight penetrates, bears witness to years gone by. As a part of the former defense complex, the street leads through mighty archways; houses were incorporated directly into the fortress.
The other charming streets of the old town, which are grouped around the castle, also rarely allow much light in due to their closeness.
Wine and oil of the region
As a member of the Lega del Chianti, the Castellina in Chianti enjoys an old wine tradition. Expansive vineyards, olive groves and oak tree forests characterise the gentle landscape, where the vine-growing estates of the area are spread out.
Agricultural produce and specialties of the region are sold in small shops throughout the town.
Etruscan tombs
On the nearby hill Monte Calvario, a 7th century Etruscan burial place acts as a reminder of the early settlement in the region. A pathway leads to the old tombs from every cardinal point.

Strada dei Castelli del Chianti
The beautiful castle road winds through the landscape in the heart of the Chianti Classico. Clearly signposted, the road connects the region's old castles such as the Castello di Brolio. more
