Castello di Meleto
Surrounded by vineyards, the mighty Castello di Meleto stands high upon a hill. A charming cypress boulevard leads up to the castle, which often resisted fierce attacks during the Middle Ages.
Stone fortresses and impressive cylinder towers are evidence of the castle's turbulent past. Today, the castle, with its beautiful renaissance courtyard, is well known as a vineyard estate.
Defensive walls
The castle in the hills of the Chianti Classico, near the town Gaiole in Chianti, belonged to the Benedict monks of the Badia a Coltibuono. In the 13th century, it became the property of the aristocratic family Ricasoli, who made drastic changes to the building.
The imposingly defensive extensions to the estate in the 15th century were a part of this. In the 18th century, the interior was converted into a magnificent villa with a beautiful small theatre.

Strada dei Castelli del Chianti
The beautiful castle road winds through the landscape in the heart of the Chianti Classico. Clearly signposted, the road connects the region's old castles such as the Castello di Brolio. more
