San Donato in Poggio

Some of the houses of the small town San Donato in Poggio date back to the 14th century. City gates, narrow lanes and archways give the town off the beaten path a truly historical flair.

In San Donato in Poggio, one isn't quite as acclimatised to visitors as in the better-known towns in Chianti. The impressive Palazzo Pretorio di Malaspina, from the Renaissance era, draws a lot of attention.

The city walls date back to the time, when Florence and Siena were fighting over the area.

Churches to see

The church Santa Maria delle Neve and the parish church Pieve di San Donato, which has a bell tower with a battlement inside, are worth seeing.
