Piazza del Campo
The famous mussel-shaped Piazza del Campo connects the three parts of the city and forms the heart of Siena. Dignified, Gothic palazzi of the most affluent and influential families form the wonderful backdrop to the beautiful square.
Regulations on how the feudal house's architectural style should be created a unique harmony within the square.
The square, where the Palio is held every year, is lined with numerous cafes and restaurants. The fountain Fonte Gaia, which decorates Il Campo, is a favourite meeting place of tourists and locals alike.
Completely Gothic : The town hall
The Palazzo Pubblico's high slim towers complete the beautiful square.
The monumental building with its simple yet effective decorations, the Gothic triple windows and its battlements, stands in the centre of the square.
Museo Civico
The three-storey middle block was started in 1297, both other buildings were added later.
The interior of the city palace houses the Museo Civico. The representative halls in the Palazzo Pubblico were decorated with frescos by the most famous of Siena's artists.
Town hall's tower Torre del Mangia
The Torre del Mangia stands over 100 metres tall, but appears strangely weightless. Anyone wishing to, can climb the tower with the bright spire.
As a reward for their effort, those who make it to the top can enjoy a breathtaking view of the city and surroundings.
